As an update to the attached story, I was contacted on the 26th October 2019 by Chris Barraclough who sent the photo to the right which shows her great uncle, Leonard Nicholl who was the son of the Rastrick born England international rugby player, William (Billy) Nicholl. Leonard’s wife Lily (nee Barraclough) is with him outside their home at 8,  Tile Terrace, Rastrick. Leonard and Lily were married at Bridge End chapel on the 14th August 1915. He worked as a dyers labourer at the Brookfoot Dyeworks and signed up with the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment the following year, to serve King and country in the 1st WW. He was wounded by machine gun fire on the 14th November 1916 but continued his military service until being demobbed at the end of the war in 1918.
