The first burial at St. Matthew’s took place in 1798, soon after the completion of the current church building. Up to the middle of the year 1880, there were 5,997 burials in the graveyard which I transcribed onto an Excel spreadsheet from the burial registers. This of course took many hours of painstaking work in order to make them available to the public on this website, free of charge.
I was very kindly allowed access to the remainder of the burials that are recorded in a register which dates from 1880 until the present time (the graveyard is now closed for further burials). An appeal was made for assistance with the transcribing and four lovely people stepped forward to help.
The work was quite simple, all that was needed was a computer or a laptop with Microsoft Excel.
The information taken from the register (above left) was transcribed into an excel spreadsheet (above right).
